Coronavirus versus technology

The coronavirus has unfortunately become an inseparable part of the reality of each of us. Fortunately, more and more companies have started to expand the field of their research and implement the latest technologies to help people fight the pandemic and facilitate everyday functioning in these exceptional circumstances.

coronavirus and technology

Some time ago we wrote about a breakthrough solution proposed by Daikin, which launched air filter with Streamer technology. This device removes allergens, fungi, bacteria and viruses from the space, but you can read about that in a separate article.

Today we come with another novelty from the world of technology. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a company that manufactures air conditioners, has confirmed that its latest patented air purification technology can deactivate the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

How it's possible? MHI scientists and engineers have opted for a system that exposes cells to UV-C LED radiation. It is they who inactivate the virus in the air.

According to available information, research carried out in cooperation with Kitasato University confirmed that almost all cells are completely deactivated in the MHI dust-collecting air filter. Tests also show that the virus particles disappear almost completely with an average inactivation rate of around 60 minutes, which is a very good result.

The UV-C LED, which has also been extensively tested, has proven effective in combating microbial contamination. To verify the claims, scientists spread a liquid containing tens of thousands of SARS-CoV-2 particles on a resin plate under UV-C LED light. The experiments were performed in a sealed device to increase the accuracy and control of the test surface.

Before introducing the devices to global markets, the MHI Thermal Systems brand announces that it will continue the commissioned research in order to check the effectiveness of the devices even more precisely.

We follow with interest new research and new products on the air conditioning market. We encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, where we share the latest news with you.
