Calculate the cooling power requirement
Let's assume that we are interested in air conditioning for a 40m2 apartment. What cooling power should the device we choose have? We can choose the air conditioner based on the surface parameter or its volume. In the case of an apartment with a standard height, the calculation of the cooling power adequately to the area of the apartment allows to obtain an optimal result, and thus guarantees an adequate selection of the device for the air-conditioned area. This is very important due to the possibility of obtaining the set temperature, while maintaining high efficiency and energy efficiency of the device. But let's focus on the numbers.
The general assumption is that for every 10 m2 of surface there should be 1 kW of cooling power. In the case of air conditioning for a 40m2 apartment, it gives us a result of 4 kW. This means that we should choose a device with a cooling capacity of not less than 4 kW. It is worth remembering that this parameter is calculated in relation to the entire surface, which means that partitions in the form of doors and walls are not taken into account. Rooms separated from the room where the indoor unit will be installed may therefore be insufficiently air-conditioned, even in a situation where the cooling capacity of the air conditioner is adequate to the total area of the premises. This is especially important in the case of larger areas, where, for utility reasons, it is more functional to install several indoor units with lower cooling power in individual rooms than one high-performance unit, e.g. in the living room.
